About museum preserve

The Museum is located in a renovated building of a fire convoy, built in 1874, near the 1st part of Simbirsk police Department. Although contemporaries believed that the building was too cheap: "...this building is reminiscent of the current ladies ' dresses: all tight...", it became one of the most prominent historical monuments of the Moscow street.

In 1920-ies in the building of former Fire convoy there is the first fire station, until 1968 - the city fire brigade №3 of Ulyanovsk city administration. During the Great Patriotic war there was a workshop on repair of fire equipment. A squad of professional fire protection and fire Department technical services was in the building until 1979. On April 17, 1979, in the year of the 60th anniversary of the Soviet fire protection a permanent Ulyanovsk fire-technical exhibition was opened in the building.

Every stage of life of Fire convoy left traces in this building. In the 1930s, on three open arches of the South facade the gates were hung, the windows and door openings were laid down. In the second half of the twentieth century the internal layout repeatedly changed.

The restoration revealed the historical layout of the corridor and stables, which today presents unique exhibits - made life-size horse-barrel moves: hand pump, two-horse sledge and the working line. These gorgeous, interactive exhibits are visible from the Lenin street in the open restoration of the arch of the main facade. In the stables "model options" of stables are restored. This part of the exhibition is the result of vast research work of the Museum staff. To see such exhibits - the evidence of technical culture of our ancestors related to the organization of fire protection in Russian cities of the nineteenth century, is possible only in Ulyanovsk. In addition, the pre-revolutionary section includes a large range of authentic materials and documents, dioramas and virtual characters.

The Soviet period of development of fire works is also reflected. It includes a set of fire-technical equipment and a large section on the prevention of fires. In the new exhibition a garage is opened and restored - the evidence of a fire brigade of 1940-50-ies which includes a unique car on the chassis of the GAZ-AA. This is only one of the five surviving in the world of cars of this brand accessible to a wide audience. A new Museum was opened on the New year eve of 2013.
