About museum preserve

The Museum is housed in the former mansion of the chief of Simbirsk gendarmerie management M.P. von Bradtke. Rebuilt in the early XX century by the famous Simbirsk architect August Shode, the house of M.P. von Bradtke itself is a fine example of art Nouveau. The Art Nouveau is a style in art and in life of turn of the centuries came from Europe and blossomed with original motivations in Russia. Provincial Simbirsk enthusiastically embraced the fresh aesthetic jet, and for a short time in the city there appeared its own school of art Nouveau, reflected in the many magnificent buildings and interiors. The exposition of the museum includes a large complex of original works of decorative arts - furniture, porcelain, glass, book graphics, advertising, costume from the beginning of XX century

The Museum presents the work of three architects, defining the architectural appearance of Simbirsk of Art Nouveau era– August Shode, Theodore Livchak and Theophanes Volsov. The opening of the museum devoted to architecture of Simbirsk of the late XIX - early XX century is due to the fact that the modern era was the last stage of the pre-revolutionary history of the city. This period is associated with the construction of significant architectural buildings, up to the present time determining the appearance of Ulyanovsk.
